The difference between Japanese Hair Straighteners and Keratin Treatment.

Many of my clients have asked me about the difference between the two hair straightening solutions that are on the market today.

Japanese Hair Straighteners

Japanese straighteners work on breaking and rearranging the internal bonds of the hair. Once these processes are done, the hair is permanently straightened but note that the new growth will always be curly, and the previously straightened hair will never revert or blend back. With Japanese straighteners, the promise is always of silky smooth hair, but the reality is that people who receive this type of treatment one can have very frizzy straight hair if the cuticle layer of their hair is damaged or abused. The Japanese Thermal Straightener will permanently straighten one's hair and substantially reduce frizz, but it will never correct the current condition of the hair cuticle.

Keratin Treatment

The Keratin Treatment is a semi-permanent treatment that is keratin based. It will rebuild the hair, seal the cuticle and protect it from the elements. It is not meant to be permanent because the bonds are not being broken or re-arranged; therefore if you want to maintain the Keratin Treatment look you will have to have it done more often then a Japanese Straightener. The more damaged the hair the better the results with the process and repeated applications will make the hair silkier and smoother.  You may have the Keratin Treatment done if you have previously had your hair relaxed or straightened by a Japanese straightening system and your result will be soft, shiny and straight just the same. The time is shorter than that of the Japanese straightening therefore the price may be cut a bit, but your return visits will be more than your once or twice a year.
This process can also be done if you have colored or highlighted hair. Keratin is the safest solution on the market to help you achieve healthy, soft, shiny, straight hair.  More information can be found here: http://www.hairdesignbyron.com/id65.html

Keratin Treatment

Many of my clients have asked me about the recent buzz around the straightening system called theKeratin Treatment.  So, I thought I'd update my blog with some general information along with what to expect after the service is complete.

Keratin is a revolutionary hair straightening treatment for all kinds of hair. Proven to be an intense, safe treatment that leaves hair soft, shiny and fizz free for up to four months.

The Keratin Treatment is different to the many hair straightening treatments that are currently available; it is less expensive, takes less time to have done, and can be applied on any hair type.  The solution actually helps to improve damaged hair, in fact, the more damaged your hair is the more that the Keratin Treatment will help to transform it to soft, shiny hair. The Keratin Treatment is not meant to be permanent; it is a temporary method of hair straightening that does need new applications about every three months in order to keep your hair straightened.

As with all treatments that you have performed on your hair there are certain things that you can and can't do to your hair once the treatment has been performed. Below is a list of the things that you shouldn't do after having the Keratin Treatment performed on your hair:

  • Do not wash your hair
  • Do not tie your hair into a ponytail
  • Do not use hair clips
  • Do not pull your hair behind your ears
  • Do not exercise
  • Do not use hair bands
  • Do not use your glasses to hold your hair back
  • Do not use sprays, gel or mousse

The reasons that you can't do the above to your hair after having the Keratin Treatment performed is due to the fact that the keratin produces a coating over the hair and the above aspects would all break this coating causing the treatment to fail.

What is keratin?  Keratin has a strong protective quality that improves the hair both on the inside and the outside. It is virtually a liquid form of hair and brings back the strength and quality that your hair has been lacking. Keratin is a type of protein that is tough, elastic and insoluble. It is what skin, hair and nails are made of.

If your hair has seen better days and you are desperately looking for something that will bring the life, strength and durability back into it then Keratin treatment is exactly what you need.  Call Solace Spa at 732.970.0100 and book your appointment today!
